"It is you. It is fucking you. I cannot describe it anymore, it is you. You are the only one that I will ever want. I belong with you. You are my home. I look at you, and somehow I can see 50 years from now on the front porch of some old house in the middle of nowhere and we’re together. I need you. You are the only thing that matters. You are my good."

Love Today

imstilllucas:

Life is full of different stages. Each stage has benefits and drawbacks. The thing is, a lot of benefits are unique to one or two stages. Yet, we spend most of our time looking forward to the next stage instead of slowing down and enjoying the perks of the stage we are currently in. We are so ready to accelerate to the next stage in order to leave behind the negatives of the current stage we are in or to enjoy the positives the stage ahead. The thing is, once we leave one stage and go on to the next one, we leave behind the unique benefits of the old stage and we cannot return to them. There is no rewind button on life.

One stage might be being in grade school. Some benefits may include not having many worries and having a lot of free time. However, it might be tempting to look at the next stage (which might be high school) and think “wow, I can’t wait to get to high school and have way more freedom, go to parties, get a drivers license, etc.

Then you get to high school and the actual school part gets harder and you’re spending more time doing homework and you might miss the free time you had in elementary school. You now have the benefits of going to parties, driving, gaining more freedom, able to do things on your own, etc. You left the negatives of grade school behind, but with it went the positives too. You cannot get these back. Now you are enjoying high school but you might start looking forward to the next stage; life after school. You might be looking forward to working, having your own apartment, not having homework anymore etc. As high school drags on and you become a senior, you might be overwhelmed with trying to just get to the next stage as quickly as possible. You might be so focused on these benefits ahead that you miss the ones you have in front of you right now.

Time will pass. You will experience the benefits of the next stage at some point- probably sooner than you think. Also, you cannot control time. No matter how badly you want to accelerate to the next stage, time will not speed up. Since you have to finish the stage you are in before you move on to the next one, you might as well extract as much good from your current stage as possible. So the next time you’re looking forward to something in the future- a year, six months, or even a week from now- and you just want to fast forward to that moment, remember to focus on the current moment and the many perks and opportunities that are presented to you today that you might never get again in your life. Once today is gone, with it goes the opportunities and benefits unique to that day. Don’t let these slip away.
